GROUP WORK #2

Kasi Group Project: Advertisement Intentions.

During the first Group assignment, we decided that our Brand, Kasi Sportswear, specialized in sports gloves. With this, we decided that Boxing was the sport where gloves were most prominent, and that this would be the main feature of our 15 second advertisement. We wanted to play on how sports ads highlight how their equipment enhance your performance, so we used the contrast of hitting someone without gloves on and hitting someone with gloves on. Since we were restricted in use of materials, instead of using actual boxing gloves, we used the letters of the brand name to represent our wear. The portrayal of this comes through when the character connects a punch to the Brand name. This makes the audience watching it think about the protection of our products and the added impact that they provide. We chose to use Stop Motion because it adds the effect of slower movement and ‘being in the moment’, those times where it seems like time has slowed down. It also let us give the advertisement a shaky, rough feel, so for those who have are boxers, they can relate to the constant moving feeling.

Investigation

The following pieces of design were found on deviantart.com and were made by an artist that goes by the name of EmoMonkey5. I think these pieces exemplify concepts in media design as they both experiment with the idea of the introduction of fantasy to reality. This idea is what I believe media design to be; an art form that allows us to bring our imagination and fantasy worlds into reality.

The piece of art above shows the vision of the artist being put into reality.

This photograph shows the very iconic walkers from Star Wars walking along a normal highway instead of being in the snow like the were in the star wars films. It shows a piece of media design brought to live in  an everyday location.

I could use these pieces of design to influence my own stop motion film. I could develop these ideas into my film much like Patrick Jean has done in his short film "Pixels" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou8vRWTSsJo). I could use an artist that turns into a projector which then projects his artistic visions onto the landscape. Monsters on creatures could start to rise from behind buildings and effect their surroundings. This would be very appropriate to my chosen discipline as it will show my idea that our fantasy can be translated into media design and brought  into reality.
